Take the 10% Challenge for 10/10/10
Join faith communities across the nation in making a commitment by 10/10/10 (October 10, 2010) to reduce your congregation's energy use by 10%.
Many people are concerned about environmental problems such as air pollution, global warming, and our nation’s dependence on oil. Sometimes these problems can seem so large that it’s not easy to see how we can make a difference. But faith communities make a difference all the time through direct service like food pantries, homeless shelters, and free clinics. So imagine the difference religious communities can make when we commit to work toward cleaning the Texas air, one congregation at a time.
Experts tell us that reducing our energy use by just 10% is both meaningful and do-able. When your congregation pledges to reduce its energy use, you will help to reduce our nation’s oil dependency, clean our Texas air, and save money on electric bills. When you take the 10% Challenge with Interfaith Power and Light (IPL) before 10/10/10, you will join a community of congregations across the nation that will share ideas and best practices.
You'll also receive:
- A toolkit from the national IPL to help you get started.
- A packet from Texas Interfaith Power & Light (TXIPL) with more resources and state-level opportunities, including ways to make your voice heard in the upcoming 2011 legislative session.
- Study and worship resources.
- The support you need to make a difference in your community.
There are so many ways that we can get to work protecting the beautiful corner of creation that we call Texas. We have compiled ideas, resources, and information to help get you started in the way that makes sense for your community—everything from energy-efficiency projects, community gardens, and tree-planting to advocating for policy change. This fall, let’s all get to work and do what we can to make a difference.
