When you and your congregation join Texas Interfaith Power and Light, TXIPL purchases renewable energy credits generated by new wind farms across the U.S. By joining TXIPL, you are making a tax-deductible donation to put more clean power into an electrical grid in the United States, forcing polluting plants to cut back their output.
Your purchase is a tax-deductible charitable contribution. TXIPL will buy the number of RECs that you designate through your membership level and retire the underlying tradable renewable energy certificates. You will receive both an acknowledgement of your contribution and a notice confirming that your RECs have been retired.
TXIPL uses PayPal to process our membership payments. You don't have to have a PayPal account to use our online payment system. Not comfortable making online payments? Print our membership form and mail it in with your check.
- Basic Household Membership--$45 annual membership offsets about 25% of carbon emissions from an average Texas home's electricity consumption (about 4,650 pounds of carbon)
- Basic Congregational Membership--$180 annual membership offsets carbon emissions from 1,000 kilowatts/month (about 18,600 pounds of carbon)
- Kilowatt Offset Membership--purchase enough RECs each month to offset your home or congregation's energy consumption (check a recent utility bill or call your utility provider to find out your monthly usage)
